Humans of SteubySTL: Steuby Baby Groot

To be featured as one of our “Humans of SteubySTL”, you don’t necessarily need to be a human. Just ask Cardboard Pope Francis. We’d like to introduce you to another interesting character that we found at this conference, Steuby Baby Groot.

There’s one problem that arises pretty quickly in interviewing Steuby Baby Groot – he has a fairly limited vocabulary.  He is only capable of saying three words: “I am Groot.”  Unless, of course, you press a button on his back, allowing him to sing, “I Want You Back” by the Jackson 5.  So, he is tough to interview.  Fortunately, there were two girls from his parish ready to translate for us.

After a 7 hour drive from his home at St. Monica Parish in Edmon, Oklahoma, Steuby Baby Groot arrived on campus yesterday for his very first Steubenville conference.  Like many Steuby newcomers, the little tree-like alien is pretty pumped.  He’s really looking forward to hearing Adam Bitter play some of his favorite songs.  Some classics like “You are my Joy” and “Your Name High” come to mind; they keep him rooted in his faith.

Steuby Baby Groot had a pretty rad time on his drive here.  Getting to take a picture with his BFF, Fr. Hamilton, has been a highlight of his trip so far.

While he’s here, Groot isn’t messing around.  He’s already had his picture taken with Cardboard Pope Francis. In the meantime, you can catch him busting out his favorite dance move.  It’s a lot like grooving, but he likes to call it “Grooting.”  Groot on, Steuby Baby Groot.  Groot on.

(Keep up with all of his adventures on Instagram where he appears as @steubybabygroot.)
