Humans of SteubySTL: Jim Walsh

Jim Walsh is a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Valley Park, MO where he served as a youth ministry core team member for nine years, and where he has been serving as the sacristan for the 5:30 pm Mass for the past nineteen years. He has been attending our Steubenville conferences since the year 2000.

He first began attending these conferences as a core team member with his parish, and since 2010 has been volunteering with production.

Jim’s role with production is quite a commitment. He and two other folks drive from St. Louis to Springfield on the Wednesday before our first conference to begin setting up the arena, and they stay long after the second conference has ended to tear down the stage and bring the Office of Youth Ministry’s equipment back to St. Louis. And if you ask anyone at all, our stage setup keeps getting better and better, so we all really appreciate it!

Humans of SteubySTL: Deacon David and Patty Schaefer

Deacon David Schaefer and his wife Patty are members of Assumption Parish in South St. Louis County, where Deacon David serves as a Pastoral Associate. Patty is a nurse at Washington University in The Department of Neurology.  At our conferences, Deacon David is a videographer and Patti is a nurse who volunteers in First Aid.

They have been attending SteubySTL conferences for twelve years. The first two years they volunteered as chaperones with their parish youth group, and then became involved with the Office of Youth Ministry volunteer crew.

Humans of SteubySTL: Dan and Julie Mohan

Dan and Julie Mohan are volunteering at this weekend’s conference as part of the production team. Dan is our Live Stream Engineer and Julie is the Assistant Producer of this weekend’s conference.

As a senior at Chaminade, Dan attended the very first SteubySTL conference in 1999 at Marquette High School and the next one in 2000 at SLUH as a volunteer. Fourteen years later he reconnected with an old friend from his youth group, Denny Handley, and in 2015 he began his current role as the Livestream Production Engineer.

Though Julie never attended as a teen participant, this is her 4th year volunteering. In addition to her role this year, she has served as a chaperone and has been a spotlight operator.

Humans of SteubySTL: Rob Williams

Rob Williams is a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Wentzville, MO where he plays bass guitar for the parish’s Life Teen Mass.

He has been volunteering at our conferences since 2012 and has always helped with production either as a stage hand, running spotlight, or as an audio technician. He has also spent the last 6 years at a week long scout camp leading up to Steubenville, so he really appreciates the air-conditioned arena!

Rob works as a communications technician for AT&T and for fun he enjoys sand volleyball and other recreational sports. His favorite part of every conference is Eucharistic Adoration.

Humans of SteubySTL: Beth and Mark Stevison

Mark and Beth Stevison are parishioners at Mary Mother of the Church Parish in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. They have been married for 24 years and have three boys. They met on a youth retreat (how cute is that?) called Teens Encounter Christ where Mark was on the music ministry team and Beth was a retreatant.

This weekend Beth is serving as an usher, and Mark is serving as a prayer minister – and he was a youth group chaperone last weekend. This is Beth’s 5th year attending our conferences, and Mark’s 6th.
