David Calavitta – Living Life in Friendships

Whether we like it or not, we are very much products of our community.

Just look at yourself: you are the product of the community of your mother and father. We are made to live in union with each other. Unfortunately, where God seeks to unite, Satan seeks to divide.

As conference participants heard this afternoon from David Calavitta, in God’s plan, we have the ability to unite together as a church community. One of the best ways to build a strong community is through selfless love. This love should be at the core of any relationship and, in our case, our faith relationships. Our church community should be compromised of people who understand their mission and carry the wounded along the way.

Once we understand what it means to be selfless, we must learn how to love – but what is love? Love is when you stand up for the good of someone else, even in times they don’t want it. An important part of this is being both accountable and vulnerable with one another, especially when we are broken.

To close out David’s workshop, participants took a few minutes to share a part of their life where they are struggling with the person next to them, and then they prayed over each other.

Quotables

“Love is to will the good of the other.”

“Our church community should be compromised of people who understand their mission and carry the wounded along the way.”

“When we enter into relationships, the only way they come to life is if selfless love is at the center.”
