Volunteer Mass with Bishop Rivituso: The Cost

Well. The time has come. You woke up early today, drank some coffee, and loaded up on your way to Steubenville. For some people this is a yearly occurrence, whereas, for others, this is a new concept. While we all gather for one goal, each one of us are in a different story.

Here at the conference, our days have started similarly. The conference staff members and volunteers traveled from all over, and we are just as excited as you.  At 10 am, the team gathered together to share in the celebration of the Eucharist with Auxillary Bishop Mark Rivituso of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. During his homily, he talked about costs. That there are costs everyday in our lives that we must weigh, from the cost of shirt to the cost of our faith. As Christ shares with his disciples today in the Gospel, following Him is quite costly.

As Bishop Rivituso says,

“There is a price to pay, and Jesus wants to make sure that we are not going into this with rose-colored glasses.”

How beautiful it is to start off our weekend with a reminder of what has happened, and is to come. That while the conference may end on Sunday, and we travel back to our assorted homes, we may be “handed over to the courts” and that we “will be hated by all because of my name”.  The conference staff comes to help the teens this weekend, through all means necessary. We are ready to be bold witnesses of Christ for you.

The theme this year is Revealed, which encourages us to allow Christ to be revealed to us, so that we may live through Him. Let Christ reveal himself to you this weekend, so that you may be ready to face the courts when you return home. And know that the staff members and volunteers are praying for you every step of the way!
