As we do each conference, the weekend began with our volunteers gathering for Mass. In his homily, Bishop Rice centered everyone on the divine love we find in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He considers the 1st Friday devotion a reminder to return to the heart of Jesus.
“My human love is tainted… infected with selfishness, pride, and ego. Sometimes, my human love isn’t so loving at all. It’s self-serving.” Sometimes, we spend so much time focusing on making ourselves look good on the outside. Meanwhile, our hearts might be far from Christ. The Sacred Heart of Jesus calls us to a higher existence and a deeper love.
Experiencing, knowing, and sharing divine love is possible! A life of divine love is discovered on the other side of our fight with pride. As Bishop Rice said, “When we do let go of this distorted human love, and embrace this divine love, God can accomplish great things in us.”
Right now, at the beginning of this conference, and in all the days to come, let us remember not to settle for human love. Together, let us strive for divine love.
