Jason began his talk with brutal honestly, describing how in high school he had one foot in the world and one foot in the ‘youth group world’. Two of his reasons for this, which might resonate with some of us, were that:
- He had met some religious people that were weird, and he didn’t want to be weird.
- He didn’t want to lose his personality.
He later found out, by the way, that those weird religious folks were probably weird before they became holy. Fair enough. And he has also discovered since that it’s sin that actually dulls our personality, while God helps us to be fully ourselves. Retweet.
If we take some time to study the lives of the saints we quickly discover that they are not clones; they are all very unique. Jason cites some awesome examples of this in his talk, but his words are funnier and more poignant than my summary could ever be, so just do yourself a favor and listen to the full audio of the talk – embedded at the top of this post.
The root of Jason’s fear was that he didn’t trust the love of God the Father. But he has discovered that God is totally trustworthy.
God doesn’t just want more from you after this weekend, He wants more for you.
We can experience this “more” that God wants for us primarily by staying connected to the sacraments. Confession. Sunday Mass, and even Daily Mass.
Daily Mass is for those who have nothing better to do, because there is, in fact, nothing better to do!
Jason closed with several extremely practical tips for prayer, including (but not limited to): make time for prayer, make a place for prayer, learn to listen, take your time, and be patient.

If you become what you should be, you will set the world on fire. – St. Catherine of Sienna
The Catholic faith is a relationship to be lived, a person to be loved.

*you gotta check out the full audio for the context of that last quote, but it’s epic…
