Humans of SteubySTL: Drew

Some of the unsung heroes of SteubySTL are the interns of the Office of Youth Ministry for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. They dedicate a majority of their summers to making sure that our conferences go as planned. One of these awesome humans should be a familiar face by now: meet Drew.

This is Drew’s third year serving as an intern in the office, and he loves it. Before Drew took on serious responsibilities, however, he could be found goofing around with his youth group at SteubySTL for five years as a teen. One of his favorite SteubySTL memories as a participant is hiding in a dorm wardrobe while his friend lured in different friends. They thought they were coming in for a serious talk. Little did they know that a camera was hiding, waiting to capture their reaction when Drew jumped out.

Nowadays at Steubenville, Drew is not hiding in wardrobes. He serves youth ministers and group leaders leading up to the conference. Drew says that is his favorite part is when the conference finally arrives. You can see his passion as he discusses the moment he finally gets to meet everyone he has been serving digitally. He makes sure I note that registration this year was FLAWLESS. Beyond registration, leading up to the conference, he comments that housing really is his baby.

Drew recently graduated from Creighton University. He is thrilled to be heading to Los Angeles in about a month to serve with Jesuit Volunteer Corps at a high school. He will be doing college counseling and campus ministry. Drew knows this will be hard work, but he is incredibly excited. Keep him in your prayers over these next months as he prepares for this work.

This year marks his 10th and 11th conference. His advice for post-SteubySTL life is simple: find a community. “You’ve gotta show up.  Half of life is just showing up.”
