Humans of SteubySTL – Kate Rumping

Kate Rumping will be at both of our conferences this summer. If you are here week one, you will find her volunteering her time as an usher, and if you are here week two you will find her chaperoning the young people in her youth group – Defenders of Christ Youth Ministry from St. Joseph Parish in Imperial, MO – for which she is a core team member. Kate has been attending SteubySTL conferences since 2004, and over the course of these past 15 years she has been a teen participant, young adult, chaperone, and volunteer.

When she is not helping us out in Springfield, Kate works as the Aquatics Coordinator for the Jefferson County YMCA, where she trains and supervises lifeguards and swim instructors. In her limited free time, she loves to swim and read and make knot rosaries – which she gives to the teens in her youth group to hand out to  people.

Kate’s favorite part of the weekend is being with the young church! She says, “I am always amazed at the teens. Their love and devotion to the church, and especially to the Eucharist, inspires me.” She also loves the opportunities she has, when she chaperones, to strengthen her relationships with the teens in her youth group.

The best advice that she has for teens to keep their faith alive:

Be active in your youth group and hang out with good friends that help build you up.  Set time aside for daily prayer. Go to Mass every Sunday, even daily.  Be a part of a community that prays together and has fun!

One of her favorite memories from a past conference is from several years ago when she was working with the safety and traffic teams, and they had to help guide the teens who were leaving the conference away from a family of skunks that had taken up residence by the Q; you can read an article about this epic moment in SteubySTL history here)!

Here are two fun facts about herself that Kate wants you know:

I am obsessed with Dachshunds (Weiner Dogs).I have two puppers at home!

I once managed to fall on the only cactus in Jefferson County, Missouri – at the age of six – while riding my bike!

If you see Kate at one of our conferences this summer, be sure to say ‘hello’ and don’t be afraid to ask her if she has any free rosaries available for you, because she is always willing to share them when she can!
