Humans of SteubySTL: Deacon David and Patty Schaefer

Deacon David Schaefer and his wife Patty are members of Assumption Parish in South St. Louis County, where Deacon David serves as a Pastoral Associate. Patty is a nurse at Washington University in The Department of Neurology.  At our conferences, Deacon David is a videographer and Patti is a nurse who volunteers in First Aid.

They have been attending SteubySTL conferences for twelve years. The first two years they volunteered as chaperones with their parish youth group, and then became involved with the Office of Youth Ministry volunteer crew.

Their favorite memory from a past conference was when the conference really started growing and the A/V needs were changing. Dave would load his pickup truck with equipment that was strapped in higher than the cab. Patty was always concerned he was going to have to strap her on top in a rocker like Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies if he added one more item!

Their favorite part of each weekend? “The near perfect quiet of all the teens kneeling down in Adoration focused on Christ.”

Their advice to participants to keep their faith alive long after the conference experience is over? “Adjust to changing environments, but stay focused on Christ. He is as much alive in your parish and school as He is here.”
