Fr. Dave began his talk this afternoon by reminding us that God has a plan for our lives, our lives are not random and that every individual matters.

You are more than your body

Fr. Dave reminded us that you are more than just a body. Your body is only a part of you. You are flesh and soul, and that’s what makes you human. They are important because your body and soul make you who you are. You have a body and a soul and Jesus Christ delights in that. He referenced Chris Pratt’s recent MTV awards speech last month when Pratt said “you have a soul, take care of it.”

This afternoon, Jason reminded us that as humans, we are always looking for love. But in our culture today, how do we foster healthy relationships?

Friendship

Jason began by noting the difference between true and false friendship. True friendship is when we will the good of another, when we hold the other accountable, when we affirm the other and are honest with them. False friendship is when bad company corrupts good morals, when people cause us to gossip, and people use us for their convenience.

One of the things that I enjoy more than anything else is travel. Visiting new places and experiencing things for the first time seems to never get old. Whether I’m getting in my car and driving a few hours to just get out of town for a day or getting on a plane and flying half way around the world, the new sights, sounds, smells, and flavors are a sure way to break up the monotony of daily life.

Quick reality check, as of the date of publication it has been 89 days since we wrapped up Steubenville Week 1 or 82 days since Steubenville Week 2. Regardless of which weekend you attended, both conferences wrapped up with a speaker presenting a challenge. You can go back and listen firsthand to Kyle Heimann from Week 1 or Paul J. Kim from Week 2. Both men led us through a reflection on The Transfiguration from Mark’s gospel. Here we see Jesus with Peter, James and John up on a mountain and following the transfiguration, when Jesus reveals more fully his divinity, the disciples wanted to set up camp and stay put in that amazing moment. However, the disciples had to descend the mountain.

Summer is over. School is back in session. Games, practices, and rehearsals are in full swing. Praise God that we have these opportunities before us but all of these changes can mean life is pretty crazy.
