Mary Sophia from LEAD: Opening Up to God

Mary Sophia from LEAD is a parishioner at Mary, Mother of the Church in the Archdiocese of St. Louis where she is a member of the parish youth group. She recently graduated from Mehlville High School, and in the fall she will be a freshman at the Franciscan University of Steubenville.

Tonight we had the privilege of hearing her share about the first time that she let God into her life. In 8th grade, during a time of deep personal struggle – her mom had been diagnosed with cancer – she started to resent God, and thought that He had forgotten about her.

As a part of her Confirmation preparation, she was invited by her youth minister to attend a retreat. And during a time of prayer, something beautiful happened. As she poured out her anger to God, and her heart began to soften.

Here are some of the awesome things she had to say:

I just simply prayed, “God, I need Your help.” And immediately He drew my attention to the crucifix.

He just spoke into my heart, “I’m here.”

If you are dealing with something that’s heavy…invite Him in.

God completely shattered the lie that I was fighting my battles alone, and I know He can do the same for you!
