Joe Murphy has been coming to Steubenville for 14 years, and this year is helping us out with production both weekends.
He loves being outdoors and doing things like hunting, fishing, and hiking. He teaches computer to students at All Saints Academy/St. Rose Campus in Florissant, MO, loves technology, and considers himself “a total tech nerd.” Joe has been playing hockey since he was three years old and is, of course, a diehard St. Louis Blues hockey fan. (LGB! Play Gloria!)
Joe’s favorite part of our conferences is simply seeing teens getting closer to Christ in so many different ways.
His advice to teens to keep the spirit of the conference alive:
Pray, pray and more prayer. Have a personal relationship with Jesus and it will be like you’re at a Steubenville conference all year long.
One of Joe’s favorite Steubenville memories is from a few years ago when Sean Forrest was giving a talk and his MacBook fell off of a stand. Later, Sean came backstage and asked the production crew for a better stand next time, and the production team had an awesome idea. Later, when Sean called out to them for a better stand, they brought out a very heavy podium along with duct tape, sandbags, blankets to cushion the fall of the computer, and a drill to screw the laptop to the podium. Sean loved it!
Here’s some fun facts that you need to know about Joe:
Around most people I am so shy.
But put me in front of teens in a youth ministry setting or teaching and I have no problem making a fool of myself!
Give me a room of parents and I am a sobbing mess.
