Sister Irene has been a professed Daughter of St. Paul (aka ‘The Media Nuns’) for 28 years. Born Mary Irene, she grew up in St. Louis at Assumption Parish in South County.
Before she joined the Daughters, she went to college to St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX on a basketball scholarship. During her senior year, she and another girl were co-captains, and were the only seniors on the team. Interestingly, they both became professed religious sisters. The other girl is now a Carmelite of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Los Angeles.
She currently lives in New York City, and tries to come to one of our conferences every year to help work in the bookstore and visit with family and friends.
Her mission consists of evangelizing through parish book fairs, as well as working with Catholic school “Jclubs,” which are book fairs for grade school children. As you can probably guess, the “J” in Jclub stands for Jesus.
For fun, she likes to run, sometimes for up to two hours at a time. She is also a photographer, and loves the outdoors.
