Our Identity Revealed – Men’s Session with Oscar Rivera

Oscar began his talk during our men’s session this morning by talking about how we men like to win. That’s true. He then led us in a baptized and very fun version of “All I Do is Win”.

Oscar mentioned how we can, sometimes, leave men’s session talks feeling like men are evil, bad people. However, he spent most of the time building us up, so that we can know that we are winners, loved by the Father.

The world tells us that we need to be strong, play the part, and not show weakness or emotions. But we are more than that…we are greater than that.

Oscar told us an awesome story about how his son Antonio, who is three, put himself in harm’s way to protect his mother and sister. Crazy how a three year old can teach us about authentic masculinity, right?

At the end of the day, however, Antonio wants to be like his daddy. Similarly, we were all created to be like our daddy, our Abba, our Father in Heaven. Oscar reminded us that are walking, breathing, living tabernacles of the breath of God. And if that is true, then why do cut each other down? Our job is to bring life, and to protect life.

If we would all be willing to find our identity in God, racism would end. The pornography industry would end. The hip-hop culture of womanizing would end. So, let’s do our job and win, men – so that our world will be glorious!

Quotables

We are the only creature of God’s creation that stole God’s breath; we took his breath away.

Our hands go up…and we pray here!

You were made gloriously. You were made in the image and likeness of your Creator.
