Saturday Night Adoration: Trust in the Fearless Love of Jesus

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

This New Testament verse is so well-known that even non-Christians can recite it from memory. Its beautiful words reveal the deep love that God has for each of us. But as beautiful as this verse is, it doesn’t tell the whole story. As much love as it took for God the Father to give His only Son to us and the Son to endure death so that He might draw all of us to Him, there’s more to the love story that is the Catholic faith.

The Infinite Love of Jesus

Did you know that Jesus, True God and True Man, also gives us His Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Eucharist at every Mass? He humbles Himself to become our very food–stopping at nothing to give us everything–out of His infinite love for us. Although His Body and Blood still appear like bread and wine, the Eucharist is truly Jesus.

As Catholics, we don’t have to just accept this on faith alone, although faith is a large part of it. Throughout the centuries, to help bolster that belief and reveal Himself, Jesus has given us Eucharistic miracles that give scientific proof of His Eucharistic Presence. Click here to read a story about how a Catholic man and priest are spreading the word about Eucharistic miracles. In addition, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops are launching a three-year Eucharistic Revival to help everyone better understand and love our Eucharistic Lord.

Trust Leads to Love

During Eucharistic Adoration tonight, Fr. Chris Martin talked about trust: not only to believe in the Eucharist but also to believe that we are loved so fearlessly by Jesus. To help us build that foundation, Fr. Martin led us in the Litany of Trust prayer from the Sisters of Life. When we trust in our good Lord, we’re able to realize the true purpose of our life: to love God in return with our whole heart and our neighbor as ourselves.

Hidden Wounds: Cooper Ray

“The world offers you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.” – Pope Emeritus Benedict

In this afternoon’s session, Cooper Ray shared how his young son Eli’s over-attachment to his baby pool at home almost prevented him from the adventure of an amazing water park. Similarly, our connection to situations and things we’re comfortable and familiar with (or even things that are harmful to us) can prevent us from discovering God’s adventure for our lives.

Saturday Mass Homily: Be Fearless Like Mary

This morning’s Holy Mass, celebrated by Fr. Chris Martin, honored Mary: Our Lady of Mount Carmel. We are truly grateful for the 50+ priests who joined Fr. Martin, as well as the Carmelite religious sisters who have a special devotion to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

The Homily

Like Mary, we need to be courageous and fearless in the face of the challenges in our lives and world, as Fr. Martin reminded us. When you get to the heart of every problem, the ultimate answer is Jesus Christ – the One who created us so that we may have life and have it to the full. In Mary, we have the perfect model of ultimate trust in God’s plan and love for her.

Created Fearless: David Calavitta

Tonight, keynote speaker David Calavitta began by reminding the 3,500-plus members of Generation Z gathered here that each person is created fearless: made for love and from love. David shared with the teens that each of us is a miracle.

During the good times, we receive that simple, loving message easily. But, in more difficult times, the message of God’s unconditional love gets drowned out by lies from the Enemy. When we fail to live up to a certain standard of performance, behavior, expectation, status, or popularity, we might be tempted to run and hide from our loving Father. Shame drives us to hide instead of allowing us to run freely into His arms. There we would find the love and peace we seek.

Sunday Mass: Bishop Rice Homily

The greatest commandments of our Catholic faith are to love God, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.

But, as Bishop Edward Rice reminded the 3,000 teens, leaders, and volunteers today during the Steubenville Conference closing Mass, Jesus calls us to go a step further. We need to love with our whole heart, so we can become fearless disciples.
