Living the Lyrics: “Good Good Father” by Housefires

Who You Are

Ever have a day where it feels like no matter how hard you’re trying, nothing is going right? Maybe you just broke up with a boyfriend or girlfriend and you don’t feel like you’ll ever love anyone else again. Sometimes life is just plain hard and it feels like you’re never going to be good enough.

That’s why I love the song “Good Good Father” by Housefires. If you haven’t heard it, go look for it on YouTube or check out the lyrics below. The refrain is: “You’re a good, good Father; it’s who you are…and I’m loved by you; it’s who I am.” God the Father loves me. It’s really that simple. God loves me because it is His nature. He doesn’t love me because I am the best at something or because I’m popular or because I look a certain way.

God Tells Us How Valuable We Are

Think about it this way: when we go to buy a box of cereal, we give the cereal worth by saying that we’re willing to give $4 in exchange for the box. Well for human beings, it is God who gives us worth. God tells us how valuable we are by giving His Son, Jesus Christ, in exchange for us. It is God who gives each and every person a sacred dignity. You are infinitely valuable to Him.

Sometimes this is hard to believe. After all, we often fall short of being kind, truthful, compassionate, and charitable. Despite our failings, however, God still loves us and pursues us relentlessly with His love. Our God is a God who is so deeply and madly in love with us that He will come to us wherever we are to win us. He waits with perfect patience for us in every tabernacle, in every Catholic Church, waiting for us to come and see Him.

No matter what the world tells you or how you might be feeling, remember: God will never change. God loves you. You are His beloved.

Lyrics

Verse 1:

Oh I’ve heard a thousand stories of what they think you’re like
But I’ve heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night
You tell me that you’re pleased and that I’m never alone

Refrain:

You’re a good, good Father
It’s who you are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are.
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am

Verse 2:

I’ve seen many searching for answers far and wide
But I know we’re all searching for answers only you provide
Because you know just what we need before we say a word

Bridge:

You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways to us

Verse 3:

Oh it’s love so undeniable
I, I can hardly speak
Peace so unexplainable
I, I can hardly think
As you call me deeper still, as you call me deeper still
As you call me deeper still into love, love, love
